Oscar-winning actress Ariana DeBose demonstrated her live-performance skills with ease when a teleprompter malfunction occurred during the 2025 Golden Globes.
DeBose, alongside Everything Everywhere All at Once star Ke Huy Quan, took the stage during Sunday’s broadcast to present the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture to Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain. As they walked out, the teleprompter switched to a line meant for host Nikki Glaser instead of the one DeBose was supposed to read. DeBose, momentarily thrown off, paused, gave a humorous confused look into the camera, and then confidently laughed it off.
She quipped, “Nikki Glaser: There were so many great movies this year,” before adding with a smile, “You’re welcome!”
Quickly recovering, DeBose and Quan continued without further issue, properly presenting the award.
When Glaser returned from a commercial break, she read the same line that DeBose had improvised earlier, introducing a musical parody segment inspired by the Golden Globe-nominated films Wicked and Conclave.
In addition to this amusing moment, other notable Golden Globe presentations included a comedic sketch by nominees Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, inspired by their body-horror film The Substance. Kathy Bates also presented the award for Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Television Series to Jessica Gunning for Baby Reindeer, who had previously mentioned studying Bates’ iconic role in Misery to prepare for her own performance in the Netflix limited series.
Other big winners of the night included Zoe Saldaña, who took home Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez, and Conclave screenwriter Peter Straughan.
