Landman Season Finale Ends with [SPOILER] Flatlining
Tommy Norris has certainly had a tumultuous 24 hours.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of Landman, titled “The Crumbs of Hope.”
So Long, Monty…?
It seems Jon Hamm’s ruthless oil magnate, Monty, may have breathed his last in Landman’s gripping season finale. After suffering a ruptured aortic aneurysm at the end of episode 9, Monty is rushed to emergency surgery and put on an oxygen machine while waiting for a heart transplant.
However, the final moments suggest his heart may have given out before a donor could be found, as we see him flatlining in his hospital bed with his wife Cami (Demi Moore) and their daughters grieving at his side. That said, Monty has survived five heart attacks in the past, and there was no official confirmation of his death, leaving room for a potential dramatic recovery. So, for now, Hamm fans might want to hold onto a glimmer of hope.
With Monty sidelined—perhaps permanently—Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) steps into the role of President of M*Tex Oil and executor of the family estate. Tommy now faces the daunting task of assisting Cami with one final “farm out” deal while also managing a worsening conflict with the cartel. No pressure, right?
After recruiting Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) and Nate (Colm Feore) to help push the deal forward, Tommy seems to be getting things under control—until he is kidnapped by Jimenez (Alex Meraz) and the cartel. As a form of retaliation for Monty’s actions involving the National Guard, the cartel blows up an oil tank to intimidate Tommy. But when he remains unfazed, they take him to another location to amp up the fear factor.
What follows is what can only be described as a twisted form of ASMR torture—chains rattling, hammers tapping, gasoline being poured, and a nail being driven into Tommy’s thigh. Just as his survival seems unlikely, Tommy is rescued by a mysterious figure played by Andy Garcia, who kills the cartel members, frees Tommy, and suggests the possibility of peace between the cartel and M*Tex. It’s unclear whether Garcia’s character is part of Jimenez’s group or a rival faction, leaving the future of this oil-cartel drama hanging in the balance.

Though Tommy is initially resistant to the idea, it soon becomes clear that he may not have much say in the matter, especially when Garcia reveals that the cartel is interested in entering the oil business. The two escape together just before the police arrive, with Tommy catching a ride home from Dale (James Jordan).
Tommy’s day doesn’t get any better when he collapses on the couch, only to be greeted by his concerned wife, Angela (Ali Larter). As Angela heads to the kitchen, the rest of the family begins to gather, including Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and her boyfriend Ryder (Mitchell Slaggert), who, much to Tommy’s dismay, spent the night. Tommy then continues his streak of animal sightings by discovering a baby coyote in his backyard.
Meanwhile, Angela and Ainsley successfully pull off their mission to take a local nursing home to a strip club, leading to some chaotic and unusual moments, including Ainsley recruiting Ryder for an impromptu performance for the elderly residents. Later that night, Ainsley pays Ryder back for his role, all while her mother remains downstairs making breakfast. Let’s just say it was a memorable evening.
Elsewhere in the oil fields, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) continues his own journey to build a name for himself. He convinces a fellow oilman to abandon solar power and join forces with him. He also shares a tender moment with his partner Ariana (Paulina Chávez), who is still mourning the loss of her husband.
While Landman has not yet been officially renewed for a second season by Paramount+, the season finale leaves plenty of unanswered questions that suggest a follow-up could be in the works. Is Monty truly gone? Will Tommy close the deal and part ways with M*Tex? Does he even want to? How will the authorities react to the explosion at the oil patch? And what will happen to that adorable baby coyote? For now, we’ll have to wait and see if the show continues its rise or fizzles out.
The season finale of Landman is available to stream now on Paramount+.
