Trixie Mattel, the RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 winner, musician, and TV star, has revealed that she and her longtime partner and Trixie Motel costar, David Silver, have ended their relationship.
In a candid YouTube video titled Getting Ready for 2025, the 35-year-old drag icon shared the news with her fans, explaining that the breakup occurred some time ago but was kept private while she took a break from social media and professional commitments over the summer.
“The other thing I have to tell you guys about, it’s not my favorite thing to bring up,” Trixie said at the conclusion of the video. “Some of you have kind of figured it out and speculated for a while, but David and I separated quite some time ago now. It feels like you people who know me but don’t really know me in real life are the last to know about it.”
Trixie admitted that she delayed sharing the news publicly, saying, “It feels crazy that I haven’t come clean on the internet yet,” but she wanted to find the right moment and approach. Fans of the drag superstar had grown familiar with Silver through his appearances on Trixie Motel, which chronicled the couple’s efforts to open a Palm Springs motel during the first season and their work renovating a home in the second season, subtitled Drag Me Home.
“The longer I waited, the weirder it felt that I hadn’t said anything,” Trixie continued. “I worry about talking about things like this because even me saying ‘I need a break’ gets written about. I wish it was fabulous and dramatic and sensational. But it’s not salacious — it just happened.”

Reflecting on the relationship, she shared, “It was a very long relationship, and a lot of parts of it will always make me very happy.”
Trixie revealed that her mid-year hiatus, which included “lots of exercise and therapy and processing,” helped her heal. “The breakup now feels like a million years ago,” she said, expressing optimism for the future.
She also addressed the challenge of bringing her personal life into the public eye. “Welcoming everybody into my personal life gave me the privilege of making shows and telling you guys a really compelling love story in my life,” she explained. “It felt disappointing to not be able to make good on that. It feels like telling you guys there’s no Santa Claus, in a way.”
Despite the separation, Trixie expressed her continued care and admiration for Silver. “I really care about that person. I will always care about that person. I love our motel; I love all of our business ventures. Being creative together with him was one of the heights of my life.”
Trixie also noted that her exes remain important to her, saying, “All of my exes, everybody I’ve ever been with, doesn’t really leave my orbit. I still always care about these people.”
Trixie and Silver first met in 2016. Silver, a media producer with credits on films like The Break-Up and Batman Begins, also worked on Trixie’s 2019 documentary Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts, which explored a turbulent time in her professional and personal life.
As the new year begins, Trixie said she wanted to start fresh, free from unspoken truths. “I hate even having to say it,” she concluded, “but I didn’t want to go into the new year and continue to not have mentioned it.”
Trixie’s announcement marks a new chapter in her journey as she continues to grow personally and professionally, remaining an inspirational figure for fans worldwide.
